Women's World Cup: Chile misses the knockout round only by one goal

Chile has won their third group match at the World Cup 2: 0 against Thailand, but still missed the round of 16. The South Americans missed a goal at the end to qualify as one of the four best group thirds for the round of the last 16 teams. Brazil, China, Cameroon and German knockout opponents Nigeria moved into the next round.
Thai goalkeeper Waraporn Boonsing (49.) underwent an unfortunate own goal to lead the Chileans. María José Urrutia made it 2-0 to header (80.), but then Chile did not meet again. Francisca Lara fired a penalty at the crossbar on 85 minutes.
From the start, Chile tried to grab the game and came up with more chances. The first high-profile opportunity was Maria José Urrutia after a corner, the shot was deflected and hit the crossbar (13). Thailand came into play better at the end of the first half, but Silawan Intamee failed after goalkeeper Christiane Endler (33 ') after a solo effort. Chile almost took the lead before half-time, but Rosario Balmaceda's shot hit the crossbar (45 '). At break Chile came to 13 degrees, but often turned out to be harmless. Thailand came up with four shots.
Shortly after the break, however, the Chilean leadership finally made it: Zamora moved from the right into the back area to Yanara Aedo. The ten-yard hit the post with their shot, but the ball jumped goalkeeper Waraporn Boonsing on the leg and from there to 1-0 for Chile in goal (48.).
After that, Chile was the better team and got more and more opportunities. Boonsing parried a long-range shot by Francisca Lara (69.). A little later Urrutia hit the head with a cross from the halffield (80 '). Chile had a great chance of making it to the round of 16 just before the end of the first half, but Lara only hit the crossbar with her penalty (85.).
