News : World Cup in Canada – German curlers lose – sport
The German curling selection suffered the next defeat at the World Cup in Canada. Captain Sixten Totzek (Rastatt), Dominik Greindl, Marc Muskatewitz and Joshua Sutor (all CC Füssen) lost against the Netherlands, who were bottom of the preliminary round, 5-7 on Wednesday after they had celebrated an 8-6 against Denmark. With seven defeats in the preliminary round, the national players have little chance of direct Olympic qualification. Only the best six of the 14 teams will qualify for the 2022 Games in Beijing. The remaining three tickets – China is already qualified as host – will be awarded at a tournament in December. On Monday, the Germans had their first success at the World Cup with 8: 6 against the previously undefeated leaders Norway. Before that, they had lost all of their first five World Cup games, and on Tuesday they had their next defeat against Scotland (8: 9). In the preliminary round it is still against South Korea, China, Sweden and Canada.
